I've had my 2017 Mini Cooper S for about two years now and honestly I absolutely adore the thing – it's like driving a go-kart with a personality and it never fails to put a smile on my face even on the most boring commutes. But over the last few months I've noticed that I'm having to top up the oil way more frequently than I used to, and it's starting to worry me because I know these BMW engines can be a bit thirsty but this seems excessive even by those standards. I'm adding about a litre every 1000 kilometres or so, which doesn't seem right to me, and I've checked for visible leaks underneath the car but everything looks clean and dry so I'm guessing it's burning it rather than leaking it. I took it to a local garage and they basically shrugged and said "they all do that" which didn't exactly fill me with confidence because I'm pretty sure a litre every thousand kays isn't normal no matter what anyone says. The car only has about 70,000 kilometres on it so I'd be pretty gutted if it needed major engine work at this stage. Any advice from fellow Mini owners who've been down this road would be massively appreciated because I'm losing sleep over this and my wallet is starting to feel the pain of constantly buying top-up oil.
